It’s Project Runway Season! 

I don’t normally watch the show because the stress and mess are too much for me.  I just go online to see the finished products for each show (yea, I’m a cheater. Lol).  But this year, me and a friend decided to join the Project Runway At Home Challenges.

Torrid Inspired Lace Crop Top

While browsing through Torrid, this beautiful color caught my eye.  It was this lace top.  It was gorgeous and I’ve never seen anything like it; especially not in a plus size store.

Battle with Blouses

Sometimes it can be difficult to find a simple casual blouse, especially made of fabrics with no stretch.  I always find myself picking up the cute sheer blouses that are on sale, only to be disappointed by the fact that my arms would not fit into the sleeve.  Not every plus size female has this problem.  Some of you are blessed with a generous bosom and small arms.  I, on the other hand, was dealt a different hand.   I can wear a full dress size smaller if the garment has no sleeves.  Which means, going up in size to accommodate my arms can tend to mean the top becomes unflattering.

So the battle begins with McCalls 5145.....

Playing with Peplum (Vol. 2)

So I’m back at the peplum top.  This time I chose a pattern with princess seams.  My previous peplum top had the seam across my abdomen that I wasn’t a big fan of.  I’m sure if I just find a better placement for that seam I will like it,  but I love princess seams, so I tried out this tactic instead.

This project began when I decided to participate in Making Strides Against Breast Cancer sponsored by the American Cancer Society in Centennial Park.

Ugly Fabric Weekend, Part 1

Sometimes, as a seamstress, you will take a stroll through your fabric selections and come across a few things that make you stop and go…..”What was I THINKING?!?!?!?”  And sometimes you have to stop for a moment longer and ask “And WHY do I have so much of it?!?!??!”

Don't Get It Twisted: Well it actually should be in this case....

Up next we have this twisted pattern Simplicity 3768. 

Four total pattern pieces, each cut twice: front piece, back piece, sleeves, and front facing.  I was in need of some casual tops for work.  Something simple, easy to accessorize, and something that could dress up my jeans and look nice with work slacks as well. 

Playing with Peplum (Vol.1)

I usually don’t follow trends.   I don’t enjoy looking at clones of me walking around.  Or am I a clone of theirs?  See where the confusion comes in? 

Breaking the Rules - Part 1

I’m sure you Plus-Sizers (and not so Plus-Sizers) have heard some of the following sayings:

“Wear Black, it’s slimming”

“Don’t wear patterns with big bold prints, wear small patterns”

“Don’t wear ‘busy’ patterns up top.  Wear solid colors instead.”

Off the Shoulder Tops and Dresses

I am a sucker for easy patterns.   Simplicity 2804 is one of them.  

I may be guilty of over-using this pattern (only Top B), but I don't care.  There are worse problems to have than having the best pattern on earth!  It's so flattering for my shape and entirely too easy to make.  It requires only 3 pieces: a front, a back and a band to fit across the hips (which I make a bit more snug than the pattern's design).  I've made various subtle changes to this pattern to create many different looks.

Drape Necks - McCalls 6563

I have always loved drape necks and this pattern, McCalls 6563, created a beautiful one.
