Sewn Magazine Feature | Maxis & Hats

Another appearance in Sewn Magazine is in the books!

The October 2020 feature: Maxis & Hats

Michelle, editor and publisher of Sewn Magazine, and the voice of That Black Chick, challenged me with using this gorgeous shantung fabric with colors bolder than my typical wardrobe.  I selected Butterick 6446, View C.  Nothing like a faux wrap dress with pockets!

Shantung is beautiful but it's not the smoothest fabric so I was happy that the pattern calls for a lining of the bodice.  The texture of the shantung can be itchy against the skin if you're sensitive like I am.  But I do love the body and the drape of shantung.  It's a fabric that creates elegance without fault.  And with these bold colors, I knew I needed a dramatic hat to accompany it.  A statement fabric deserves a statement hat, don't you agree?

I never wanted to live in (near) Atlanta, but I must say, it has brought some special people and moments into my life.  Including this talented group of people!  A group sharing a common interest and the blessed ability to sew our own clothing!

The Zadie Jumpsuit in Minerva's Linen Look Suiting

Hello Fall!

It’s amazing how quickly the fall season fell upon us (pun intended).  It has been an extremely long year, but it has flown by.  I know that’s a weird sentence but you can’t deny that there’s truth to it.

Rebecca Page - Eloise | Voile Fabric

 I tried something new!

I've never shirred anything in my life, and as of today, I still have not.  But I did create a similar look/function using multiple elastic casings.
