If there’s one project that’s boosted my plus-size sewing confidence lately, it’s this one. I recently made a pair of pants using Simplicity 8056, and it’s safe to say — I’m in love!
I cut a size 28 with no adjustments (which almost never happens for me), and the fit is beautiful. Dare I say "perfection"??? I used Minerva’s Exclusive Forest Flashback Linen Viscose Blend POD Fabric, and it was the perfect choice for this pattern. The linen viscose fabric has that lovely mix of structure and drape — sturdy enough for trousers but soft enough to move with you. For more details, checkout my post on the Minerva site!
What really stood out to me about this project was how empowering it felt. As someone who sews plus-size garments, finding patterns that fit well right out of the envelope can be rare. Simplicity patterns have always been a reliable choice for me, and this one proved why. The shape, the proportions, and the comfort level definitely boosted my confidence and gave me the encouragement I needed to make more pants.
Now, let’s talk about the one small challenge: that fly front zipper. This is nothing against the pattern, it's all on me! I’ve only done that technique once or twice, and it’s been years! It took a little patience and a lot of quality time with my seam ripper. It still did not come out perfect by far. This is definitely a moment of #goodenough. Honestly, it just reminded me that every sewing skill gets easier with practice. But that was THE ONLY problem I had with these pants.
These pants have officially earned Simplicity 8056 a place among my favorite plus-size patterns. I already have plans to make more — different colors, different fabrics, but definitely using this same pattern. It’s such a great base for anyone wanting to tackle pants making for curvy or plus-size bodies.
If you’ve been nervous about sewing pants, especially as a plus-size maker, I highly recommend giving Simplicity 8056 a try. Pair it with a quality linen viscose blend fabric, and you’ll have a project that not only looks amazing but reminds you why sewing for yourself is so rewarding.
