Sewn Magazine Feature | Maxis & Hats

Another appearance in Sewn Magazine is in the books!

The October 2020 feature: Maxis & Hats

Michelle, editor and publisher of Sewn Magazine, and the voice of That Black Chick, challenged me with using this gorgeous shantung fabric with colors bolder than my typical wardrobe.  I selected Butterick 6446, View C.  Nothing like a faux wrap dress with pockets!

Shantung is beautiful but it's not the smoothest fabric so I was happy that the pattern calls for a lining of the bodice.  The texture of the shantung can be itchy against the skin if you're sensitive like I am.  But I do love the body and the drape of shantung.  It's a fabric that creates elegance without fault.  And with these bold colors, I knew I needed a dramatic hat to accompany it.  A statement fabric deserves a statement hat, don't you agree?
