Drape Necks - McCalls 6563

I have always loved drape necks and this pattern, McCalls 6563, created a beautiful one.

Believe me, I have tried some drape neck patterns that I was not impressed with.   This was a simple pattern with only 2 pieces; a front and a back.  I chose a sheer taupe with black polka dot fabric and used black thread for a slight accent.  

                     

This blouse is very comfortable. I’ve made one for more casual days, and I chose this one for a more dressy/sophisticated day.  I like the dip in the back hemline also.  I purchased a top that does that in the back and front and I do like the tricks it plays with my hips.  I will probably incorporate this into more tops later.

The pattern size I chose was ZZ (LRG-XLG-XXL) and I did cut it out on the XXL lines.  No additions were made to sleeves nor overall width of the pattern.  However, the first blouse I made created a lower neckline than what I wanted for work.  It tends to hang off the shoulders a bit.

So I added more fabric around the neckline as seen below.  The dashed line shows the new cutting line.

This allowed the blouse to fit higher on my shoulder and it was perfect.  I will definitely make this top again, and I believe I will use this top to create a maxi dress in the future, so stay tuned!
